Mama's Thoughts...

“Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you are a mile away from them and you have their shoes.” – Jack Handey

But really – stop criticizing or judging others (ahem, me) unless you know their entire situation. Below are some words from my mother about judgment. She makes a good point...

Sometimes things are not what they appear and sometimes they are. But what did Jesus say to the woman caught in adultery when everyone wanted him to condemn her and they all wanted to stone her. He asked them all "who is without sin?". None are without sin, regardless. It is a daily struggle. Some struggle with greed of food or money, and some struggle with telling the truth, jealousy, anger and some struggle with drugs, alcohol and gambling, etc. What is it about people, especially Christians that makes them want to gossip and tell others how to live their lives. Jesus said "take the plank out of your own eye". (Not exact quote.) Those who are quick to spread things around and judge are more likely to have that same situation happen to them. It has a boomerang effect. So, if you are convinced, you know what's going on in my life, my heart and with my actions, then take a good hard look at yourself and ask "why" is that something that I am "so" interested in and want to talk about "so" much? Is there something in me that is afraid that I may do what I accuse them of, or, does that give me a license to feel superior and have the attitude of "she needs to be more righteous, as I am?

I have to constantly remind myself to not be quick to judge. Is it kind? Is it right? Is it necessary? are the little questions I have to ask first.

You are so right! It's frustrating how quick people are to judge when they don't even know the actual truth of a situation.
