Cracked.

We built our house in November 2009. About a year ago we noticed a small crack going up the wall. The crack has since grown...a lot. Husband decided to check the outside of the house this past weekend to see if the foundation itself was cracking. Well, he found a crack on the exterior of the house in the same spot as the crack no the inside AND a crack in the foundation on the other side of the house in the same place! Grrrrr!!

So, we called our builder and assumed they would come right out and fix it without questions since we have a 10 year structural warranty. WRONG. They came out, took pictures, and said that the cracks had to be bigger than 1/16th of an inch. Guess how big the crack is on the inside of the house? 1/16th of an inch. Seriously?!?! So I guess we have to wait a few months and call the back once it gets bigger. Just absurd. They also said the cracks on the outside of the house are not the foundation. So, it's just a coincidence they the house has two cracks clear across both sides?! I think not.

Their solution? Patch it. UM. NO. I'm not covering up their building mistake! I will wait 9.75 years if I have to, but as soon as the crack is .01 inches wider than 1/16th of an inch I'll be calling them!

Anyway. I guess the point of this post was to vent and show y'all how absurd this is! Just look at these pictures. What would you do? Just wait? Call someone else? I don't know but I want it fixed. :-/

Look closely. It's a Z shape.

This goes almost halfway up the wall.

That is ridiculous. You hire professionals because you expect a professional job. A warranty is a warranty & they should honor it. It's hard to find "good workers" these days isn't it? Hope you get the problem fixed soon :)

That is crazy! You just built it they should fix it now! It is so sad people don't seem to care anymore!

I can't believe that. The outside one isn't as noticeable but the inside definitely is! I'd be upset, too!

That is ridiculous that it has to be a certain size in order for them to fix it. The one inside is definitely noticeable and if y'all are still under warranty, they should be fixing it immediately I would think.

Oh man. I hope those guys fix this. No one wants a Harry Potter scar on their wall. :(

Maybe call an insurance adjuster ? Looks like that is a problem with the structure and could lead to problems. Definitely get a second opinion. Sounds like your builder does not want to deal with it.

Omg is that second crack on the inside of your house? A house should never crack that much! At least I feel like they shouldn't! This sounds like something that would be on my husbands favorite show...Holmes on Homes. Ha! He comes in and fixes things like this when builders just try to cover it up! Good luck with everything, hope it gets fixed!

Bigger than 1/16" meaning wide, not length? Uh, WHY would any one want to wait longer to see if it gets wider than that? It is most certainly longer that that. Oh my word. Stomp, kick and scream....hey, maybe doing that will widen the crack so they'll fix it.

Sorry to hear that. :( I agree with Erin above. Sounds like a case for the Holmesy-man. ;)
