Being fake is not for me

I wrote this in my private blog but then decided I think everyone should be able to read this. It's nothing I need to keep private. So here ya go:

This whole "YOU are the only one who can make you have a bad day" thing is crap. I gave myself a pep talk earlier tonight - full on read a freaking self-help article on how to believe that I deserve to be happy. Then less than an hour later I am upset. If other people - words they say, looks they give, etc. - didn't affect a person then why does it matter what anyone does or says? Because that's BS and it does matter.

This is going to be vague but I portray myself how I want others to see me and in my case I show the TRUTH. I don't sugar coat anything. If anything, I drown it in grease. (get it? That's supposed to be the opposite of sugar…) I make myself sound worse than I actually am. Why? I have no idea; but, I do it. I've always done it.

Many, many people portray that they have a wonderful, amazing marriage/family life on social media by commenting on their spouse's page every day and posting sweet-nothing statuses. Many, many people post statuses about how hard they work and how much time they spend with their kids. I'd be willing to bet at least 50% of that is fake. It's a cover-up. It's what they wish their lives would be like. And I place no fault on those people because who doesn't want to be happy? Who doesn't like to pretend like their life is a little bit better than it actually is?

But don't look down on me because I don't do that. I honestly don't. I'm one of those people who air my dirty laundry TOO MUCH. I know it. I try to tame it down but I've always had a problem with people being fake and I refuse to pretend to be happy/sad/etc if I'm feeling a different way.

I'm harder on myself than I should be. So rinse off some of that grease before you think you understand what's going on with me. Most likely I'm better at things than I say I am, I eat more healthy things than I say I do, and I'm less negative than I claim to be.

Now I can go to sleep.

Expectations

Expectations.

What a weighted word.

I have learned a lot about myself lately. One thing being that I have extremely high expectations.

High expectations for myself: I expect myself to weigh a certain amount. I expect myself to act a certain way. I expect myself to have zero negative emotions in public because well, that’s what is expected from society. I expect myself to never yell at my child. I expect myself to keep a perfect “pinterest” house.

I do not achieve these things. I just expect it. And when it’s not met, I’m extremely hard on myself. Really, really hard on myself.

I also have expectations for others. I expect certain reactions from people and when I don’t get what I’m expecting, I’m disappointed or frustrated.

This is a big problem. It’s a problem for Madi. I expected her to jump up and down and squeal with excitement over the Disney show last night but she didn’t. I compared her to the three year old next to us who was doing just that and then I ASSUMED Madi wasn’t enjoying the show.

The kids were asked to stand up and interact with the cast but she just sat in her seat. I said why don’t you get up and dance? She looked at me and matter of factly (is that a word?) said “not that kind of person.” Well. She told me.

I know it's sideways but I can't get it to rotate!

At the time I didn’t understand. I wanted her to be as excited as I was. I wanted her to EXPRESS her excitement the exact same way that I was and other kids were. But now, looking back, just because she didn’t jump up and down doesn’t mean she didn’t have fun. She told me herself – she’s just not that kind of person. She DID have a good time. After the show she said she couldn’t wait to tell people about it.

I allowed my preconceived notions of how she would react to alter my mood.

This is just one example of the many, many times I have allowed my expectations to discourage and disappointment me.

Lesson learned. It’s not going to be easy to change my way of thinking. It won’t be an overnight change. But I’m going to work on it. And I’m going to try to remember that she’s not me. Madi has her own personality and so does everyone else I interact with.

I’m the kind of person who waves her hands in the air while riding on a roller coaster.

What kind of person are you?

#Tired #of #the #labels

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  --Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus is a pretty cool dude.

Fo real. Yo.

No seriously, He is.

I have been feeling really unaccepted lately and I had already planned on blogging about it. I like to share things I'm struggling with, because I assume I'm not the only one.

The reason I said Jesus is a pretty cool dude is because today, as I was driving, I decided to listen to my church sermon (live! I love technology!) and sure enough, it was just what I needed to hear.

Everyone is different. No two people are exactly the same. We hear that all the time, and it's true - to a degree.

I'm different from the majority of the people I know in these ways:
  • I hate to sleep. I have always hated to sleep, even as a baby (my poor parents). I just feel like it's a waste of time. I'll sleep when I'm dead.
  • I don't like vegetables. I don't like seafood. I don't like most fruit. I don't like mexican food. I don't like japanese food. I don't like about 85% of foods. I do like fast food, chips, pineapple, sweets, and Italian food.
  • I have some for real OCD issues. I can't stand for things to touch my skin a certain way. Clutter makes me irritated. I bite my nails until they bleed.
  • When I don't understand something, am in an uncomfortable social situation (unfamiliar surroundings), or am scared I get really uptight and come across as rude/unfriendly. I don't mean to. It's just my natural reaction to these situations.
These are just a few things that I know stand out about myself and that I identify as different from others. The ones in bold are the ones I really feel affect how others perceive me.

Lately, I've gotten a bit fed-up with others' reactions to my differences. I don't eat all the same foods as you. Yes, I bite my nails. Yes, I realize it's disgusting. No, I don't know how to stop.

My point of this post is not to vent and rant but to say to those reading this, and to myself, that our reactions to others (whether intentional or unintentional) most likely leave an impression. I feel bad about myself when I see someone's reaction to me saying no thank you to eating a particular food. I feel bad about myself when I see someone's facial expression after they've glanced at me biting my nails. I am sure I have made someone else feel bad before when they are doing something I deem weird or different. I'm making a conscious effort going forward to be aware of my body language and my reactions to others.

The sermon from today comes in to play with this topic because Perry talked about hashtags, or labels. All of that above - it's labels. Labels I've placed on myself. Labels that others have placed on me. Some good - some bad.

I'm working on saying good bye to my negative labels -

#unattractive - childhood issue that I need to let go
#nailbiter
#pickyeater
#unaccepted - due to all of the above

And I'm working on realizing these are my true labels -

#beautiful
#new
#growing
#accepted
#jesusfollower

So, maybe this made sense. Maybe it didn't. I tried to capture the random thoughts in my chaotic brain. Basically, I'm sick of people making fun of me for who I am just because I'm different than they are. And I'm sure others feel the same way. Jesus loves us. I'm trying to remember that!

When we allow hashtags to control us, we don’t let God control us. #Change

I like candy.

Just some random thoughts going through my mind at the moment...
  • I keep socks under my pillow. You see, my feet are always cold at night but in the middle of the night they get hot. I take them off but they aren't really dirty so I just keep them under my pillow to put on the next night. Don't worry - I only do this 3 nights tops and then I get a new pair.
  • Drinking tap water grosses me out a bit. I recently threw away a filter from my Brita pitcher but the new filters I bought don't fit. Now I have a pitcher but no filter. I still run the tap water through the filterless pitcher before I drink it. It some how makes me feel better.
  • I have candy around me almost constantly. I keep it in my nightstand and on my desk at work. I keep it in my car too. If I don't have candy or chapstick around I'm not a very pleasant person. Confession: I'm eating candy as I type this.
  • Winter sucks. I gain weight (no, it's not due to the candy. I eat it in the summertime too), the clothes are frumpy, can't wear flip flops, and it rains a lot. Bring on summer.
  • My neck itches like a bia. I've had this bump on my throat for like 2 weeks now. It's almost gone, healing I assume, and that's why it itches. Grrrrr.
  • Madi was flipping hilarious the other night. She thinks she's Mulan. (I've posted the video below for your amusement.) I really love how active her imagination has been lately. She plays mermaid teacher in the tub, Mulan recently, gave me a "bedtime ticket" to get into her room to put her to bed, and had pet mice the other day.
  • My fan makes this obnoxious sound. I think it's about to break. I should have taken the sound machine from Carrie's house. Darnit. … (I just threw something at it to see if that would help, it didn't.)

I guess that's enough. I could keep going but I've gotta save some randomness for twitter.

Finish the Sentence.

button

I stumbled upon (okay I realize that’s an actual thing, but it’s just a phrase…) this link-up today on bloglovin. I love it! Everyone’s responses are so hilarious.

My happy place…is long gone. That is, the wine is long gone, and I can’t get any until pay day.

Whatever happened to…pogs??? Remember those things? The little cardboard chips that everyone had to have. Playing pogs at recess was sooooo cool.

So what if I…had to look at everyone else’s answers to this question. Mind is blank y’all. Oh y’all – got one – So what if I practice saying “hey y’all” like Paula Deen. I think I’m pretty awesome at it. Maybe you’ll get a vlog of it. One day. Maybe.

E! needs a reality show about…normal, middle-class people who work, take care of their kids, cook meals, go to Wal-Mart like it’s a vacation, & do church on Sundays. Now that’d be a shocker.

My go-to fast food meal is…all of the above. I’m a fast food junkie. Y’all should know that. McD’s – plain cheeseburger, med fry, med diet coke. Except when it’s Monopoly time, then I get the large fry because I have to get those pieces!!

You might not know that I…sometimes pluck my leg hairs with tweezers. Probably shouldn’t have revealed that.

The hottest quarterback in the NFL is…Tom Brady? I don’t even know if he’s hot. Is he a quarterback? Or in the NFL? NFL is football, right? That brown ball with the white lines? Idk…

If I could…win the lottery, without actually playing the lottery, I’d quit my job and buy a bunch of things I don’t need.

My personality is awesome because…duh.

Twerking is…I just lost respect for this link-up. No. Although I did have to YouTube it the other day because I had no idea what it consisted of.

I think it’s super gross when…people blow their nose while eating; people chew loudly; people make sounds with their throats; people clip their nails at work; people breathe. Yes, the last one sums it up.

Someone needs to tell Miley Cyrus…that Jesus loves her, even when she twerks.

I refuse to recognize that it’s Wednesday aka Hump Day aka let’s all quote the Geico commercial for the millionth time and laugh like we’ve never heard it.

That’s all.

Quirky 'Ol Me

I am well aware that I am a very odd individual. I have quirks about me that really surprise some people. I figured it'd be fun to let you all in on some of these. If nothing else, it'll give you a good laugh.  :)
  • I cannot stand to touch carpet/rugs with wet feet. That includes carpet on boats. Pontoons = nothankyou. The memory foam rug is my favorite invention.
  • If I'm really looking forward to something (usually dinner - oink, oink) but have other things I need to do, I make myself do them first. So, even if my food is hot and ready I'll still take a shower and clean the house before eating. It's super annoying.
  • I have to sleep with hair over the ear that is away from the pillow. I once heard about a bug crawling into a lady's ear while she slept and ever since then I've been incredibly paranoid.
  • The way I check to see if I've gained weight is by seeing if there is still a gap between my thighs. Who needs a scale?!
  • I eat M&Ms is by biting the shell and then letting the chocolate melt in my mouth. :)
  • Hotel beds give me the absolute creeps. The comforter cannot at all touch my skin. I have to bring my own pillow and I always check for bed bugs.
  • I vacuum like 1523558 times a week. And I vacuum hardcore. Having clean carpet is way more important to me than having a clean bathroom. (Although, that's pretty important too.)
Funny thing - Paul has weird quirks too. (If anything touches his neck he freaks out {including his shirts, I must add}, all lids on bottles in the bathroom have to stay closed, he can't touch his eyeballs, he listens to Enya before going to bed...probably wasn't supposed to tell y'all that last one...) ;)

What are some strange things you do or don't like??

Did you know...

I saw this fun little Q&A over on Amber's blog. Y'all know I'm a sucker for these things. Myspace days anyone?!

1. Do you like blue cheese? Noway. That's just nasty.

2. Have you ever smoked a cigarette? Nope, not even a puff.

3. Do you own a gun? No. Lots of no's going on around here...

4. What flavor do you add to your drink at Sonic? Diet Cherry. YUM. A Diet Coke with diet cherry is a special treat for me since Sonic's drinks are like $143...or $2!

5. Do you get nervous before doctor appointments? No. I just always forget what my symptoms are so I write them down beforehand.

6. Do you like hot-dogs? Well you see, I used to love them. Then once upon a time I had one in New Jersey and it has ruined my love for hot dogs. Apparently northern hot dogs are different from southern hot dogs. The casing {gag} is not appetizing, Northerners. Just so you know.

7. What do you prefer to drink in the morning? Diet Coke of course.

8. Can you do push-ups? I can probably do one. Just one.

9. What’s your favorite meal? McDonald's (plain cheeseburger & french fries)!!! Seriously.

10. What’s your favorite piece of jewelry?  A silver ring I wear every day. I got it in Peru when I was 15.

11. Favorite hobby? Eating.

12. Do you work with people who idolize you? Absolutely! Brandon fo sho!

13. Name a trait that you hate about yourself? I stress myself out and I'm too impulsive.

14. Middle name? Alexandria

15. Name 3 thoughts at this moment: 1) It's hot in my room. 2) I'm sleepy but don't want to go to sleep yet. 3) Oh crap. I just realized Madi says that all the time and I tell her that makes no sense. Guilty!

16. Name 3 things you bought yesterday: 1) Lunch from Rush's for dad and me. 2) McD's for Madi. 3) !? I don't think I bought anything else.

17. Name 3 drinks you regularly drink: Diet Coke, Pepsi Max, & Diet Coke

18. Current worry right now? My health.

19. Current hate right now? My stomach. I hate it. Someone take it out.

20. Favorite place to be? In my bed!!

21. How did you bring in New Years? Yeah, I have no idea. I can't remember what I did yesterday, much less 6 months ago.

22. Favorite place to go? Virginia Beach :)

23. What is your most recurring dream? I don't really dream much anymore. I used to dream about being chased around a blue motel. That was like 10 years ago though.

24. Introvert or extrovert? I'm an ambivert. Both. Introvert around strangers and new people. Extrovert around my friends. (me too Amber!)

25. What color shirt are you wearing? Blue.

26. Do you like sleeping on satin sheets? I don't think I ever have.

27. Can you whistle? Not even a little. I try and try but nothing.

29. Favorite color? Purple

30. Would you be a pirate? For Halloween? Sure.

31. What songs do you sing in the shower? I don't sing in the shower unless I have a radio on and then I just sing whatever is on the radio.

32. Favorite girl’s name? Brinley

33. Favorite boy’s name? No idea.

34. Who is your loudest friend? Morgan!

36. Last thing that made you laugh? Paul. I don't remember what he said but he always makes me laugh.

37. Bed sheets as a child? Strawberry Shortcake & Friends, I think.

38. Worst injury you've ever had? I rode my bicycle into a basketball pole when I was 8. I had to have 64 stitches on the side of my face. A plastic surgeon had to stitch me up because it was so bad. I still have a scar from it.

39. Do you love where you live? Yep! I really like my new town!

40. How many TVs are in your house? 2

41. What is your worst habit? Say it with me - Biting my nails.

42. How many dogs do you have? ZERO.

43. Does someone have a crush on you? I sure hope so.

44. Do you own slippers? Yep! They are leopard print. Be jealous.

45. What is your favorite book? The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes by Diane Chamberlain.

46. What is your favorite candy? Jr. Mints, Sweet tarts (although I'm kind of sick of them), M&Ms, Airheads

47. What is your favorite sports team? I don't really care for sports much. I like Clemson because Paul and Morgan went there but I really just go with the flow!

48. What song do you want played at your funeral? I don't really care honestly! Have fun - do a little dance - don't be too serious.

49. What were you doing at 12 AM last night? Sleeping.

50. What was the first thing you thought of when you woke up this morning? Do I think I can make it through the day at work? I had a rough night from being sick.

Five Question Friday!

pre to the ps. -- I posted late last night - don't miss it. It's clothes. :)

It has been a looonnggg time since I've participated in Five Question Friday and let me tell you, I miss it! So, I'm linking-up today. I just love Mama M!

1. If you could have been (could be) any profession you wanted (brains and $$$ no problem) what would it be? Hrrmmm...I used to really want to be a journalist. I think I would really enjoy that. I just am not really good at going up to people I don't know and demanding answers so maybe that wouldn't work out so well? Then perhaps a part-timer at what I already do? Because I like my not so fancy job, but working less hours and not having to worry about money would be nice. :)

2. How often do you clean out your car? Typically I just do it when I can't stand the mess any more. Like yesterday. I couldn't handle the crumbs/leaves/trash for one more second so I pulled out the shop vac and went to town! Now it's pretty and I'm happy. But, um, the windows still need to be cleaned. I don't do that.

3. Do you wish there was such a thing as fashion police or are you deeply relieved? Have you seen my wardrobe? I'm relieved!! I live in jeans/sweatpants/tshirts. I'm all about comfort. I would probably dress fashionably if I had a clue what looks good together, but I don't.

4. What's your go to food/drink/activity when stressed? Lately it's been a big bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream and a bubble bath. Soon though, it's going to have to change to Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches because I'm just not liking my thighs lately.

5. If you had twins, what would you name them? I have ALWAYS wanted twins!!! I know it would be hard as heck but it's just always been something I've wanted. My grandpa was a twin. Does that mean it's a little more likely for me? I can never remember if it's maternal or paternal that matters. But who am I kidding, I'm not having any more babies!!

Okay names - as much as I've dreamt of having twins, I've never named them. There are only a few names I can think of that I like - Brinley, Parks, Camden. I probably wouldn't do matchy names.

Don't forget to check out my blog sale. Lots of cute little girl's dresses!!

I am a snob.

There are a few things in life that I am incredibly particular about. So much so, that I'd classify myself as a snob in regards to these things. Here is my snob list. I want to know yours!

I am a hotel snob. This one is huge. I cannot/will not stay in a nasty hotel, and by nasty I mean a place that's not super nice. Justin and I have been known to get to a hotel, see it and request our money back. Yes, we are those people. We've even gone so far as to drive an extra 2 hours because we couldn't find a decent enough hotel. And if we don't have the money to stay some where really nice, we just don't go!

I am a tampon snob. I don't care how broke I am, I will never buy anything other than Playtex or Tampax. I'm sorry, but I'm not sticking cardboard up my who hah. That's just not okay. Spend the extra $$ and get the good stuff girls. Side note: being a tampon snob is a huge hindrance when snagging one from a  friend.

I am an ice cream snob. I asked my mom to bring me ice cream recently. She showed up with some off brand kind from the grocery store. It was the worst ice cream I'd ever had. Madi didn't even like it!! I stick with Edy's/Dreyer's (why are they called different things in different states?!). I will venture to Mayfield and B&J but that's about it. I know my ice cream, too y'all. I eat it every other every night.

I am a flip flop snob. I have tried buying cheaper flip flops to wear to the beach or the pool. I cannot stand them! They hurt my feet and just don't even feel like shoes. I have to stick with my Rainbows. You can keep the same pair for a few years, so I make the investment. I think a lot of you will agree with me on this one.

I am a Mac snob. I despise PCs. Seriously. I keep asking the IT guys at work to switch to Macs but I don't think that's going to happen anytime ever. I'm convinced that people who say they don't like Macs/Apple products, have never tried them. Macs are SO much easier to use than PCs and hello, no viruses! I love me some Apple products!

What are you snobby about? Anything you refuse to buy off-brand? Places you refuse to go? I want to know!

Sunday Social 1

I love any excuse to talk about myself, as I've said before, so I'm linking up for Sunday Social!

Sunday Social

1. Favorite movie of all time? Goodness this is a hard one. I'm going to have to go with The Devil Wears Prada. I have a really hard time re-watching movies, but this is one that I can watch over and over again. I think they did a wonderful job at casting!

2. Favorite movie quote of all time? "I feel like I just found out my favorite love song is about a sandwich." - 27 Dresses, I didn't even like this movie that much but that quote just cracks me up.

3. Best movie to watch for a girls night in? Okay, you can't just watch one movie for girls night in. I pick: Easy A, Mean Girls (duh), & Shag.

4. Best breakup movie? hrmm...The Notebook. KIDDING. Idk! Don't watch a movie. Watch The Gilmore Girls. They make everything better.

5. Favorite celeb eye candy? Wentworth Miller. Oy vey.

6. Which movie stars closet would you want to raid? Easy. Jennifer Aniston. She likes jeans and tshirts like me, but can also dress up without being completely uncomfortable. I just love her style!

Weeee this was fun. Happy Sunday & Happy Father's Day to all the dads!!!
