Madi Moment Monday - Age 3

Boy, it's been a while since I've done a Madi Moment Monday. I need to get back on top of things! 

Well, my MMM today is, not surprisingly, a quote I took during one of her many lectures recently. She is definitely embracing the terrible three's! 

While Madi and I were at Chick-Fil-A earlier this week she wouldn't eat her dinner. I asked her "Do you think you get to go on the playground?" Her reply - "I don't know what answer I'll use mommy. What answer will I use?" 

:) Such a clever thing she is. I just love her response. She was totally playing it safe. And guess who got to play on the playground? (She did end up eating her dinner, most of it.) I have to tell y'all also, how proud I am of her. While on the playground another boy (he was 8 years old) came in to play. She played with him and ran around with him and talked to him!!! Anyone who knows my daughter, knows this is a big deal. I was just so proud of her for finally opening up!

Daddy taught her the art of oreo dunking this past week.

Madi Moment Monday: Featured Art

This week I'm featuring another picture from my little artist. She is still drawing smiley faces, but they now have toes!

Also, tonight as I was putting her to bed she reached up and gave me a hug and said "Mommy, I love you more than a floppy french fry." It just totally melted my heart. I was so touched that she remembered that was our little thing that only the two of us share! She's the sweetest child ever! God is great!!

While playing with her cash register she said "Paying things is a really hard job. You gotta ask fermission." (permission) love love love it.

The other day I was changing and she said "Don't put your booty in my face!" I cracked up! I wasn't even that close to her!

Yesterday I said "thank you" to her and she responded with "my pleasure." Umm, we apparently go to Chick-Fil-A waayy too often!!!

Girl's Weekend & MMM!

This weekend was AMAZING and one of the best weekends I've had in a long time!

Saturday morning I woke up bright and early to drive to Greensboro, NC to meet Lindsey for our girl's weekend for the NKOTBSB concert!

I will admit, I was kind of nervous about meeting my first blogging friend in real life. But, the minute Lindsey pulled up by my car and waved real big, I knew we'd get along great! She even brought me diet cokes, and packed candy & doughnuts for us for after the concert and Sunday morning. :) She's awesome!

We met at the Greensboro mall for lunch, shopping, and pedis! We just sat and talked for the longest time during lunch. It was great getting to know her apart from our texting and twitter convos!

We had dinner at Olive Garden and then went to the best concert EVER!! You can read all about it...tomorrow! :)


Madi Moment Monday time!!

Instead of posting things she has said this week, I'm going to recap a little of what she's learning, how she's growing, etc.

Madi is now 2 years and 8 months old! (well, in 3 days) Crazy. I honestly cannot believe she's almost 3. Here's what she's up to these days:

• She loves to draw smiley faces and circles.
• She can write an "A" and recognizes M's, A's, & D's.
• She knows what sound an "S" makes.
• She can go to the potty all by herself (get on and off, wash her hands, turn off the light, etc.)
• She's potty trained completely during the day!!!! YAY!
• She can drink out of a regular cup.
• She recently started kissing and loving on J & I when she's shy. She also says "I love you" all the time!
• She will order her own food at restaurants. 
• Her favorite shows are Dora, Diego, & Yo Gabba Gabba. 
• Her favorite movies are Tangled & Finding Nemo.
• She says her blessing before meals and we read her Bible every night.
• She thinks Jesus is a girl and God is a boy. :) We are working on that one!
• She weighs around 31lbs.
• She is still not sleeping in her bed. We are working on this one also!
• She is in the "why" stage.
• She loves to play with her stuffed animals, blocks, and kitchen.

She melts my heart each and every day and I am so so blessed to have her!!!!

I guess I do have 1 quote from the week. Lately she's been saying she does not want us "to be apart from each other." (she's 2 - it totally surprises me that she knows what that means!) I told her that I was always with her in her heart. She looked at me like I was crazy and said no. So, I told her I would get us matching necklaces or bracelets and we could both wear them every day. She said she wants star ones. I can't wait to pick some out! :)

Madi Moment Monday: A Drawing

Today I'm bringing back Madi Moment Monday! Gosh, she has been cracking us up lately! Sometimes I can't believe the things that come out of her mouth!! Here are a few sayings she's picked up:

• "That's music in my ears!"
• "I'm stubborn." 
• "I miss my mommy. I never want to be apart from her." <3
• "My poop looks like a caterpillar." (Gross, I know but so so funny.)

She also said a cloud looked like a snake. This is the first time she's thought about clouds looking like different things. Oh, and she insists that Jesus is a girl and God is a boy. Ha! I love her imagination!

Her favorite things to draw right now are smiley faces. This morning she drew the picture below and I just have to share. It's my favorite drawing she's done.

The first "set" is a smiley face and he "has tears because he misses his mommy." 

The second set is a mommy smiley face so the first smiley face isn't sad anymore.

Yes, I realize my 2 1/2 year old daughter is a genius.

I'm utterly impressed by her imagination and those pictures totally make sense.

(The two circles farthest apart are the eyes, the middle is the nose and the line is the mouth. Duh.)

My Style & MMM!

I am not stylish whatsoever. I have always said that even if someone gave me a ton of money to spend on clothes, I still would not be fashionable. I want to be. I just have no clue how to put clothes together. That, and I am all about comfort. I cannot stand to be uncomfortable. I think part of that comes from my OCD, but also I just don't see the point in being miserable all day to look a certain way. Anyway!! I was actually proud of one outfit I wore this week so I figured I'd share and participate in Lindsey's "My Style Monday." Madi wanted to participate too! :)

Madi is now 2 1/2 and saying new, funny things everyday! This past week her grandma bought her a new snack. She asked Madi to try it and Madi said "I tried that when I was your age." Ha! I cracked up at that one!

The temper tantrums have definitely increased over the past few months. The other day I was punishing Madi and she mumbled something under her breath (yes! she's not even a teenager yet!!) and I asked her what she said. She looked at me and said really sternly "I. WAS. TALKING. TO. MY. SELF." I couldn't help but bust out laughing. Of course afterwards I told her she couldn't talk to me like that but oh my gosh! Where does she get these things?!!

MMM: Meow?

It's Monday! You know what that means!

Madi Moment Monday Time! :)
First let me just say the terrible twos are TERRIBLE!!!! AHHHH!! Ridic.

I thought about capturing this on video but then I just thought that'd be horrible of me, so I'll just tell you about it instead. Lately, Madi has started this weird/annoying thing - when she cries and throws fits she cries "meow" at the top of her lungs. Yes, my child thinks she is a cat. She will literally be soooo upset kicking, rolling around, throwing things (yes my perfect child throws things) all while crying "MEOWWW! MEOWWW!" I mean, wtheck?!!?  I hope this phase goes away very soon! It was funny at first, but now I'm like just cry normal already!

And now for the sweet stuff :)

On Tuesday I said to her, "Madi, you're a daddy's girl aren't you?" and she replied with "yep, you're my girl too." Talk about melting my heart! She can meow anytime! ;)

On Saturday she looked at her daddy (who recently got braces) and said "I like your braces. I hope you get your braces off so your mouth will stop hurting." Yes, she's only 2. Take that development guidelines. 2 word sentences? Try 13. And wasn't that just so sweet?

I also must share her latest drawing - a smiley face. I totally see it. Do you?

Madi Moment Monday: A Letter

Madi Moment Monday is going to be a little different today. I just felt like writing my baby girl a letter.
 
Dear Madison,
 
You are now 2 years, 4 months, & a few weeks old.  It is so hard to believe that you've only been in our life for such a short time. In these past 2 years you have blessed your daddy and I beyond belief. Every morning you put a smile on our faces and every night I pray to God thanking Him for you. I never imagined my child would have such a sweet, caring heart. You are the most affectionate, considerate, and loving child I've ever known. Your love for life and sense of humor remind me of how my attitude should always be.
 
Thank you so much for being such an amazing little girl. You teach me something new every day and I'm forever thankful that you are in my life. I love changing your diapers, picking up your toys, singing you to sleep, washing your hands, and singing songs with you! I can't wait to do so much more with you and I pray that we will always be best friends.
 
Yesterday you were eating and you touched me on the arm and said "Mommy, you're a good mommy!" Thank you sweet girl. Thank you!
 
A few minutes later I said to you "You're a good little girl," and you looked up and said "awww that is so sweet!" I just love your personality! Kisses sweet girl! Jesus loves you, Mommy loves you, & Daddy loves you!

Madi Moment Monday!

It's Madi Moment Monday!!

Oh my, what didn't she say this week?! Here's my favorite:

I was eating jell-o and Madi says "I don't like jealous." 

I asked her what the jello was called, just to clarify, and she said "Jealous? Is that jealous? Or Jell-O?"

Little trickster! Wonder where she gets that from?? (ahem, daddy)

Oh and her new favorite saying is "That wasn't very nice for you to say that word." By word, she means sentence. Like when I tell her she has a stinky diaper. :)

The Paci Fairy, Take 2: A Novel

You remember back in January when the paci fairy was supposed to visit our house? Well, she didn't come because I cancelled her visit, but this Friday night we kept our reservation! The paci fairy came and went Friday night. I'm betting she came and went REALLY fast if she heard the screaming/kicking/hitting tantrum going on in our bedroom. It was definitely not easier getting Madi to give up her paci this time. It was much, much harder. Here's how our weekend went without the paci: (and now blankie too, her choice. She now throws her blankie across the room if we so much as set it near her. I think she's getting us back for taking away her paci. She's probably going to start driving tomorrow now too.)

So long paci

Friday night before bedtime - She oh so reluctantly put her paci in the bag full of all of her old pacis that we still had from the last go-round of this. This time it took a bit more coercing to get her to go along with it. We kept reminding her that the paci fairy leaves her a gift in return and that helped.

Friday night at bedtime - This started the 30 minute temper tantrum of the century. We're talking kicking, screaming at the top of her lungs so much she was hoarse the next day, hitting, flinging herself off the bed, etc. Since she was being absolutely uncontrollable and unsoothable we put her in her pack 'n play where we thought she wouldn't hurt herself. The no padded mattress did not stop her from stomping up and down and attempting to climb out numerous times. Dear goodness she is strong willed. Eventually, and I have no idea how, we got her onto the bed which was a chore in itself and I sang over her screams until she fell asleep. We had a much calmer version of this in the middle of the night, and then another full blown tantrum around 6:50am when I just decided to get up with her and give her her present from the fairy she hated most. (Mickey Mouse Wonderland Adventures movie that we picked out at Best Buy the night before, and apparently Madi has a good memory because she says "you buy me that." Umm, no sweetie, mommy just told the paci fairy what you wanted. Mommy fail.)

*you know though - the funny thing (and baffling) is that she only asked for her paci maybe 3 times the whole weekend. When she threw the tantrums she didn't even ask for her paci - she was just screaming!

Saturday night at bedtime - (yes, I skipped over naptime because without her paci there is no such thing until she accidently falls asleep on the couch) Repeat of Friday night. She woke up in the middle of the night screaming "I'm hungry!!" so I took her downstairs and fed her and then we went back to bed at some ridiculous hour. At least she slept in until 9am!

Sunday night - This was a much easier night, minus the screaming for food right before we went to sleep. She eats more than anyone I've ever known. At least lately. It's like she gave up a smoking habit and in turn eats all the time! I mean seriously! So, I gave her a bowl of oatmeal at 10:30pm and then she went to bed just fine. 3am hits and she's screaming at the top of her lungs again that she is hungry. I knew she wasn't so I just took her downstairs and rocked her until she fell asleep. Then this morning she was a complete mess and I got a taste of what her teenage years will be like but at least there were no full blown tantrums.

I will say that it is all worth it for her to now be paci-free! Someone asked me on Saturday if I would have taken it away earlier had I known what I know now. At that point I said no because, you know, I was sleep-deprived. Now I can honestly say, YES! Take that thing away sooner!! (Although, I firmly believe they should have one until they turn 1 at least. It cuts down on the risk of SIDS and that is something that I was a completely worry wart about.) The older they get, the more attached they are to it. I didn't want my baby to grow up so I was really reluctant to take it away, but I'm really glad we did!

PACI FREE GANGSTA!

Madi Moment Mondays!

• The other day I was being silly and asked Madi if Schrute could pull her in her wagon. She replied in her most serious voice "No. He doesn't have hands, he has paws." Like, duh mommy!

• Last night when I was just getting her back to bed I told her I really had to go pee (yes, I'm so proper) and I'd be right back. She said "you can pee later." Ha! And so I did. Bossy little thing!

• This is not anything she said but something she did - Just now actually, she was sitting in her chair and came up to me. She turned my face and gave me 3 kisses on my cheek. I about bawled. She has never kissed me on the cheek before and it was just the sweetest thing ever. I am SO blessed. 

Just A Few Things...

I meant to update y'all sooner, but have just been slack, to put it bluntly. :)

Justin's MUSC visit did not give us the results we were hoping for. He did not have any major seizure activity while we were there (yes, the whole 7 days!!! And I swear he had a petite mal (absent) seizure today at work but that's how things work right?!). The doctors wanted us to stay 10 days but we both decided that was just too long to be away from Madi, our jobs, and way too long to be stuck in that tiny hospital room! They were going to send Justin home with an ambulatory EEG (just means he can take it home and do his day-to-day activities while the EEG is recording), but they did not have any devices available so we are going to set that up in the near future. As of now that is where we are with this and until we can get some seizure activity recorded on the EEG, we will not have any answers. Justin has a follow-up appointment with his neurologist in May, but even then I'm not sure that he can do much more for Justin. He has been on so many different medications already, hence the purpose of the Video EEG. We will see though...

Thank you guys so much for the prayers and thoughtful words of encouragement. We really appreciate it! Also, thanks so much for all of your motivating advice on my "Seeking Motivation" post. I was so happy to receive every single comment and really appreciate the advice. I will say that I am not going to go all gung-ho like I had planned. Lindsey suggested I take it one step at a time and I had actually thought about that too. I don't think she meant for me not to do any of it - which is how today has turned out! BUT, soon I will start counting calories, working out, or saying bye-bye to my diet coke. I haven't decided which one will be first yet but I will do them all eventually! Husband suggested that we start walking during our lunch breaks since we have a great park right next to our work, so we are going to start that tomorrow! I don't really count that working out though, but it is a step in the right direction.

Now for my favorite part of Mondays - Madi Moment Mondays!!

My sweet, precious girl has been so cuddly since we've been home. She is totally and completely the love of my life. The other day I was feeding her breakfast and I told her that mommy & daddy are her parents and she had this really confused look on her face and said "Macaws?"

HAHA! I busted out laughing! She thought I said parrots! Soooo funny! I just love her to pieces!!!

A Special Day!

Madi Moment Mondays...on Tuesday? Sure, why not!

Who said TV never taught anyone anything?
My MIL told me the other day Madi was in a tree and she yelled "Ayuda Me!" Seriously? I was pretty impressed that she used it in the right context! (It means "help me" in Spanish.) Thank you Dora the Explorer!

Yesterday Justin's brother came up to stay with him so I could drive down and see Madi for the day. I was SO happy! I knew it would be hard to be away from here, but I really didn't think it would be this hard. Madi and I had a great time together. I just love being with her! We went to Toys 'R Us and played with practically every toy there. Her favorites were the singing Mickey Mouse, Mickey Mouse toys, and a toy work bench. I got her the Mickey Mouse camper and she loves it!

When I first picked her up I asked her where she wanted to go and she picked the Pet Store - to see the bunnies. Sounded like fun to me! We also picked up toys for Pop's dogs - Moose-Goober & Dolly! Madi was so excited to give them their toys and they loved them! We had a nice time visiting Pop too. We always love going over to his house! Later that evening we went to dinner at Macaroni Grille (YUM!) with Justin's parents and then I headed back to Charleston. Madi was a big girl when I left and at first when I said I was leaving she said "ok, see ya later," really nonchalant. Ha! I was like um hello!! After that she gave me a hug and told me she was not going to cry this time. Ah, so sad but so sweet! It was a really special day for us and Justin enjoyed spending some time with his brother.

Quick Update on Justin (I know this post is getting long, sorry!) - Dr. stopped another one of his medications as of yesterday afternoon. Still no seizure activity though. I'm starting to think we are just going to have to go home without any results. :( Kind of a let down. Okay, a big let down. I'm nervous though, that as soon as we get home he will have seizures. I just feel like his seizures are triggered by being active and stressed. Hopefully this will not happen, but I am nervous about it. We should be going home Wednesday so there is still a chance that he will have a seizure here. It's still just a waiting game though. :-/

Madi Moment Mondays!

Today Madi is 2 years & 3 months old! I can't believe she's almost 2 1/2!! (eck, I need to get the ball rolling on this no paci & potty training thing!!)

• Last Sunday night we were saying our prayers with Madi and she always thanks Jesus for things, which is so super sweet. I told her though that she can ask Jesus for things too (thinking along the lines of "please help me be a nice girl" or something...). So she says during her prayer "I want a present!" Bahahaha! Nice one Madi, nice one! 

• The other day I told Madi that her daddy and I were going to have to go out of town this week (more on that in a few days) and she was going to stay with her grandma. I told her we were going to miss her very much but we were going to leave her a small gift for every day we were away. She got really excited and said: "I want a camera! A pink camera! And I want a giraffe!" I asked her if she meant a stuffed animal giraffe and she said no, a big giraffe from the zoo! Ha! Then she said "He can sleep in my baby bed, and I want a purse, and soup and a spoon for him and a bottle!" I asked her again if she wanted a baby giraffe and she said no a big one!

         I mean a giraffe? Really? A pony would even be more reasonable than
         a giraffe!  I just love her imagination!

Madi's 1st Haircut & Madi Moment Mondays!

Sunday was a good day!

Madi got her first haircut!!! 

We attempted this a few months ago with no success so this time we were prepared to be more prepared. Justin needed a hair cut so we thought it would be a great idea to let Madi watch daddy first and see that it doesn't hurt. This was a great help and she really seemed more comfortable with the idea of someone cutting her hair.

My mom met us there so she could be a part of it and Madi was really happy to see her. We went to a place specifically for kids haircuts which was great because Madi got to sit in a Barbie jeep and watch Max & Ruby! She loved that! She did great too! She didn't cry or fuss AT ALL. (Perhaps it was because we promised her the moon a toy afterwards.) We were impressed/surprised to say the least! Of course I got a bit sentimental but I'm glad her hair is no longer falling in her face!

After her haircut, Gigi gave her a stuffed penguin and we took her to Target where she picked out a jumbo bouncey ball. We were pretty thrilled because we figured that was the least expensive thing she could have picked out. After checking out and wondering why we paid so much, I checked the receipt and realized the BALL was $15!!! A grapefruit-sized ball cost me $15!!!! Are you kidding me? Ha! Oh well, she loves it...I hope! :)

While at a restaurant waiting on our bill, without Justin or myself saying anything, Madi says "He's a slowpoke!" (Referring to our waiter, and she was right - he was!)

Madi Moment Mondays & A Blog Challenge

Light bulb. I have an idea. Uh oh. :)

At least every few days Madi says something hilarious, surprising, or sweet and I find myself rushing to write it down so I don't forget it. I also love sharing these sayings with people, so I figured what better way than to document them than on here?

Here's the idea: Mondays are now going to be Madi Moment Mondays here at my place! She's quite entertaining so stick around. :)

Yesterday was just filled with awesome phrases from Miss M...

• While putting a quarter in her piggy bank she said "I know what this is. This is a pickle!" I'm guessing she meant nickle...haha!
• We were in the bathroom and she says "Mommy are you going to take a shower?" Me: "No." So she says "You need to take a shower. You stink." Me: "That's not very nice." Madi: "I'm just picking on you mommy!"
• (My nails are painted dark purple.) Madi looks at my hands and says "They are not pink. They are ridiculous!"
